Long-Term Residence Permit in Turkey
A long-term residence permit is regulated in articles 42 to 45 of the Law on Foreigners and International Protection No. 6458. In addition, a long-term residence permit is regulated in Articles 40 to 43 of the Regulation on the Application of the Law on Foreigners and International Protection.
Who are the Foreigners for Whom a Long-Term Residence Permit Can be Issued?
- Foreigners who have stayed in Turkey with a residence permit for at least eight years without interruption or who comply with the requirements set by the Migration Policy Board may be granted a long-term residence permit by the governorates with the approval of the Ministry.
- Holders of refugee, conditional refugee and secondary protection status, as well as holders of humanitarian residence permits and those who have been granted temporary protection, are not granted the right to a long-term residence permit.
How Many Years Can a Long-Term Residence Permit Be Issued for?
A long-term residence permit is issued indefinitely.
What are the Requirements for a Long-Term Residence Permit?
In order for a long-term residence permit to be issued, foreigners must meet the requirements contained in Article 43 of the Law.
– To have lived in Turkey with a residence permit for at least eight years without interruption (Article 38 of the Law on the calculation of eight years without interruption. The student residence permit included in the article is half of the period and all other residence permits are counted.),
– Not receiving social assistance in the last three years,
– Have a sufficient and regular income to support himself or his family, if any,
– Having valid health insurance,
– Do not pose a threat to public order or public safety (except for foreigners deemed appropriate by the Migration Policy Board)
What are the reasons for the Refusal, Cancellation or Non-Extension of a Long-Term Residence Permit?
– A foreigner poses a serious threat to public order or public safety
– For some reason other than health, education and compulsory public service in his country, he must be outside Turkey for more than one year without interruption,
in their case, the long-term residence permit is canceled.
Cancellation of a long-term residence permit is carried out by the governorates.
