Student Residence Permit in Turkey
A student residence permit is regulated in articles 38 to 41 of the Law on Foreigners and International Protection No. 6458. In addition, a student residence permit has been issued in Articles 35 to 39 of the Regulation on the Application of the Law on Foreigners and International Protection.
Who are the Foreigners Who Can be Issued a Student Residence Permit?
– Foreigners who will study at the primary and secondary level without a family residence permit (Foreigners who will study at the primary and secondary level with a family residence permit can continue their education without having to obtain a residence permit until the age of 18. However, students who have reached the age of 18 and are currently continuing their education at the secondary level must obtain a residence permit.),
- Foreigners who will study at associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, Medical Specialty Education (TUS), Dental Specialty Education (DUS) levels in a higher education institution in our country,
a student residence permit can be issued.
The student residence permit provides the student with the right to be supportive of family residence permit applications only to their spouses and children. It does not provide other relatives with any rights to obtain a residence permit.
How Many Years Can a Student Residence Permit Be Issued?
If the duration of study of a foreign student is less than one year, the duration of the student residence permit may not exceed the duration of study.
Foreigners who come through public institutions and organizations and study in Turkey can be granted a residence permit during their studies.
Foreigners who will study at primary and secondary level, whose maintenance and expenses are assumed by a natural or legal person, may be granted and extended a student residence permit for a period of one year during their studies with the consent of their parents or legal representatives.
What are the Requirements for a Student Residence Permit?
In order to issue a student residence permit, foreigners must meet the requirements set out in Article 39 of the Law.
-To submit supporting information and documents related to the purpose of staying in Turkey (Article 38 of the Law),
-Not to fall within the scope of Article 7 of the said Law,
-Provide the address information where he will stay in Turkey,
What are the reasons for the Refusal, Cancellation or Non-Extension of a Student Residence Permit?
– Inability to meet or eliminate the requirements for issuing a student residence permit,
– The emergence of evidence that he will not be able to continue his studies,
– Determining that the student residence permit is used outside the purpose of issuance,
– There is a valid deportation decision or a ban on entry to Turkey,
in their case, a short-term residence permit is not issued, if it is issued, it is canceled, the expired ones are not extended.
