Acquisition of Turkish Citizenship by Marriage
Turkish citizenship is acquired in two ways. The first of these is the acquisition of citizenship by birth. One of the cases of obtaining citizenship later is, as we explained below, “Obtaining Citizenship by Marriage”.
Requirements for Becoming a Turkish Citizen by Marriage
Firstly, marriage with a Turkish citizen does not automatically give foreigners the right to become a Turkish citizen. 16 of the Citizenship Law No. 5901 on the conditions of becoming a Turkish citizen by marriage.it is regulated in the article. According to the relevant text of the law, in order for a foreign national to become a citizen through a spouse, he must have the following conditions:
The foreigner who will apply for citizenship has been married to a Turkish citizen for at least 3 years and the marriage has been going on;
Participation of spouses in the family union;
The foreigner does not engage in activities contrary to the marriage union;
The foreigner does not have a state that threatens public security.
Foreigners can apply for citizenship in the governorates where the settlements are located if they meet the above requirements. But if the spouse of a Turkish citizen dies after the application date, the spouses are not required to live in a family union.
The last paragraph of the text of the law relates to what will be the status of a foreigner who has acquired Turkish citizenship as a result of a marriage ending in a lie. If a foreigner has good intentions in marrying, his citizenship will not be revoked.
Documents Required to Become a Turkish Citizen by Marriage
Required Documents in the Application
A fully completed citizenship application form;
Photocopy of the Turkish spouse’s identity card;
Notarized Turkish translation copy of the passport or similar document;
Notarized copy of the Turkish translation of the birth certificate of a foreign spouse;
Marriage Certificate (photocopy will be presented);
The most recently obtained residence permit for foreigners whose place of residence is Turkey;
A document indicating that the spouses live in a family union (such as a lease agreement, bank account);
Biometric photo with white background taken in the last 6 months;
If there is a court decision that has been finalized about the foreigner for any criminal reason, a notarized sample;
A document indicating that the cost of citizenship application service has been deposited.
How soon will the processes of obtaining citizenship be completed?
